Is AI applied to compensation practices overhyped or transformational?  Boyd Davis, a veteran executive in both AI and compensation, will share why the answer is both.  In this session, Boyd will start with AI basics for business people (not data scientists), where he will describe the different applications of generative AI and machine learning.  He will then share practical examples of where AI can make an impact, and lead a discussion on the risks and potential downside of AI in total rewards. Finally, he’ll share some principles for evaluating the potential for various DIY or vendor solutions.

Key Takeaways:
  • AI is simple – applications simply use math to predict an outcome based on data.  Key is to know what data is being used, how to process it, and how probable is the result to be accurate.
  • Generative AI is complex and powerful, but public LLM’s come with risk and limitations
  • Purpose-built AI for compensation can deliver both efficiency and impact – we’ll show how

Beyond Titles: Job Analysis Methodologies in Modern Compensation Design

In a labor market where job titles often outpace role clarity, organizations risk misalignment between job content, compensation, and market benchmarks. This session explores foundational job analysis methodologies—such as task-based, worker-oriented, and competency models—and how they underpin equitable, defensible job evaluation practices. Learn how these approaches support internal job leveling, enable accurate benchmarking, and enhance Total Rewards strategies. We'll also briefly discuss how AI-powered tools can assist in analyzing large volumes of job data without losing the judgment and context provided by human experts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Differentiate between core job analysis methodologies and determine their practical applications in compensation design.
  • Apply structured job analysis methods to support consistent job leveling that aligns with internal frameworks and external market benchmarks.
  • Identify risks associated with job title inflation and role ambiguity, and leverage job analysis to improve role clarity and compensation alignment.
